What’s Model Builder

The Model Builder Module in Atomica allows you to convert intraoral scans into accurate physical models for study, treatment planning, or presentation. The module preserves the centric relation exactly as captured in the intraoral scan, ensuring clinical reliability in every printed model.

Creating a New Case and Importing Models

  • Open the Atomica Launcher.

  • Create a New Patient.

  • Fill in the patient data

  • Select the Prosthetic Module.

  • Import the first model (upper or lower jaw).

    • Ensure the occlusal surface is facing the camera.

    • For upper models, confirm the teeth are directed upward.

    • For lower models, confirm the teeth are directed downward.

  • This will open the Fine Tuning Window, where you can adjust the orientation and position of the model:

    • Left-click and drag to move the model freely.

    • Right-click and drag to rotate the model.

  • Import the antagonist model.

The antagonist will automatically load in occlusion, exactly as scanned

    Preparing Models

    • Use the Cropping Tool to remove excess areas not needed for printing.

    • Switch to the Model Builder Module.

    • Assign the maxilla and mandible in the confirmation window (confirmatory step).

    • Adjust model parameters:

      • Distance – controls the height of the model base. Increase if mounting is needed.💡 Tip: Adjust distance by holding the mouse wheel and scrolling.

      • Hollow Option – choose solid or hollow model.

      • Thickness – define wall thickness.
Click Create Model to generate and display the model.

    Adding Pins

To preserve the relation between the two models when printed:

    • The software will automatically direct you to the Pin Placement step.

    • Adjust parameters such as:

      • Pin Diameter

      • Ledge Offset

      • Ledge Height

    • Preview the pins before confirming.

    • Place typically two pins, one on each end of the model.

    • Click Complete to finalize pin placement.

    • Confirm with Model looks great.

    Labeling the Model

    • Select the option to Add Label.

    • Choose the placement of the label on the model.

    • Start typing the desired patient name, case ID, or custom text.

    • The label will be adjusted live as you type, so you can confirm its size and position before saving.

    Exporting the Model

    • In the case panel, right-click on the model name.

    • Select Export.

    • Choose the destination folder where you want to save the file.

    • The model will be exported as an STL file, ready for 3D printing.
